LeT biggest threat to US after al-Qaeda: US envoy | Assistant Secretary, US Bureau of South and Central Asian
Affairs Robert O Blake Jr has said that following the attack on Indian parliament in 2001, the US had started considering the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as the single
most serious threat to America after al-Qaeda. Speaking during a television interview
on the 2nd anniversary of Mumbai attacks, he said that first of all, the main
message was one of solidarity between the American people and the government of
the United States and the people of India , as they remembered the terrible events
of 26/11. Blake also said that US President Barack Obama has been very clear on
insisting that it was Pakistan’s ‘duty and obligation’ to cooperate to bring those
who were responsible for the terrible 26/11 Mumbai attacks to justice, and also
addressing the problem of the LeT. He further stated that the LeT has not only
been targeting India but also the United States , and the American troops in Afghanistan
and elsewhere. “So this is a very important priority for all of us and it’s a
priority, I think for,” he added. On being asked whether or not Pakistan has made
much progress in cracking down on the terror outfit, Blake said that more needs
to be done as far as the LeT is concerned, the paper said.
