Kapil Sibal given additional charge of Telecom Ministry | Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal was on Monday given the additional charge of the Telecom Ministry. Kapil Sibal will now hold the charge of the Ministry formerly held by A Raja, who resigned from the post
over his alleged involvement in the spectrum allocation scam. Earlier on Wednesday,
Sibal assumed charge of Ministries of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences
in addition to his current charge after Prithviraj Chavan, who held the post was
made the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Parliamentary
Affairs V Narayansamy was given additional charge of Department of Personnel and
Training (DoPT), which also fell vacant after Chavan's departure. The 2G spectrum
allocation has reportedly caused an alleged loss of Rs1.76 lakh crores to the
Government, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has stated in a
report. The report is understood to have stated that A Raja had no apparent logical
or valid reasons to ignore the advice of the Law and Finance Ministries while
allocating telecom spectrum to several firms in 2007-08. The report is likely
to be tabled in Parliament within ten days. |
