Abducted Afghan envoy Farahi released after two years | The Afghan Consul General to Pakistan, Dr Abdul Khaliq Farahi, has been released by unknown abductors after
a period of two years. Although it is not confirmed yet on what conditions the
militants released Farahi on Saturday night, his release might be a result of
the ongoing negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban, The Nation
reported. Hailing from Farah, a province of Afghanistan , Farahi served as Consul
General in Quetta after the end of the Taliban regime. In April 2002, he was appointed
as Consul General in Peshawar , and served on that position for six years. On
August 21, he was named as Afghanistan ’s Ambassador to Pakistan . On September
22, 2008 , he was abducted by armed persons from Hayatabad area of Peshawar ,
while his driver Khalid was killed when he showed resistance.
