Chinese lights popular during Diwali | The demand for Chinese lights has risen in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur city ahead of Diwali. On Diwali, people
decorate their homes with lights, flowers and earthen lamps. But nowadays people
prefer to use Chinese-made lights because they not only cost less but their electricity
consumption is also less. "People have started using Chinese lights because of
which the sales of these lights have increased, and the quality of Chinese products
has also increased. They are priced very cheaply because of which even the poor
can afford to buy these lights, and secondly they consume very little electricity,"
said Rajeev Rastogi, a wholesale dealer. "They hardly consume one or two watts
of power. We can use these lights for decoration without additional electricity
cost. We are able to celebrate better Diwali due to the Chinese products," he
added. Ausaf Ahmed, another wholesale dealer, said that the demand for these lights
has increased over the years because they have become much more durable, and are
sold at competitive prices. "People prefer buying Chinese lights for the auspicious
festival of Diwali. We have many different forms of Chinese lights. We have nets,
rice lights, flower lights, and this time people are demanding Chinese lights
because they cost less but are much more durable. People prefer decorating their
homes with Chinese lights," said Ahmed.
