Victoria Police sacks four more officers over India-centric racist email scam | Victoria Police today sacked four officers more over the racist and pornographic e-mail scandal that rocked the
force recently. One of the offending emails contained video footage showing the death of a man who was traveling on the roof of a crowded train in India . The
email contained racist comments, suggesting "this might be a way to fix the Indian
student problem". Another seven officers, all ranging between the ranks of senior
constable and senior sergeant, have been fined between 500 and 3000 dollars respectively
for using the force computer network to circulate inappropriate e-mails, the Herald
Sun reports. The officers sacked today during the latest round of discipline hearings
were two sergeants, one leading senior constable and one senior constable. They
are in addition to the sergeant, two leading senior constables and a senior constable
who were sacked during the first round of discipline hearings, and a further six
low-ranking officers who were previously demoted or fined. All of the officers
have 14 days to appeal their dismissal at the Police Appeals Board and show cause
as to why they should not be dismissed. The dismissals are part of Operation Barrot
which was established in June to investigate a series of emails which had been
circulating within the department before December 18 last year. A racist e-mail
scandal was revealed earlier in which Victoria Police officers were joking about
a video showing an Indian passenger on the roof of a train getting electrocuted
as he touches the high-tension wires. It came at a time when force command was
trying to ease racial tension after a number of assaults and incidents involving
Indians living in Melbourne.
