Two men convicted of murdering Indian origin shopkeeper Gurmail Singh in UK | Two men have been convicted of murdering Indian-origin shopkeeper Gurmail Singh during a robbery at his store in Huddersfield, UK. Singh had died from head injuries after he was struck at least nine times with a weapon, believed
to be a hammer, at Cowcliffe Convenience Stores on February 20. A jury convicted Muawaz Khalid, 20, and Nabeel Shafi, 18, of murder at Bradford Crown Court.
Three
other men, Umare Aslam, 20, Shoaib Khan, 18, and Rehman Afzal, 18, were
cleared
of murder. Khalid and Aslam were also convicted of robbery. After the conviction,
Singh's son Jas said that the family was "relieved that those who committed these
terrible crimes have now been found guilty". "My mother has been completely
devastated
by the murder of her husband. Since he was killed her health has deteriorated
vastly. We miss our father's patience, support, calmness, warmth, strength and
love. He showed all these characteristics every day of his life," the BBC quoted
Jas, as saying. Sixty-three-year-old Singh had come to England from India in 1963
and raised his family in Huddersfield.
