US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, William Burns, on Thursday, reiterated Washington's deep strategic interest in India's rise as a global power. Interacting with the media here after holding discussions with the Indian government on the agenda of President Barack Obama during his visit to India in the first week of November, Burns said: " US has a deep strategic interest in India's rise as a global power. It has deep interest in India's success." "US is committed to support India' emergence working together to adopt international architecture to reflect the realities of the 21st century," he added. Describing President Obama's visit to India as a "historic moment in relations between India and US", Burns said the visit should be seen as a "moment when we can demonstrate to both our people the tangible benefits in which we can work together to demonstrate that individual success of each of our societies." He added that the long term "benefit from our partnership" would "help to build a more stable and prosperous international system." "We have rich agenda before us, and, I think, the president's visit will provide us an opportunity to demonstrate progress on a whole range of issues -- agriculture, health, development, our defence cooperation, counter terrorism cooperation, on working together on our important strategic interests across Asia and the Pacific," Burns said. "Together, to realize the full potential of historic civil nuclear agreement between the two countries; to working together to adopt and reform export control policies to reflect realities of 21st century; so that India is looked as a partner," he added. "So, on all areas, there is an extraordinary partnership and extraordinary opportunities. We are determined to work together," Burns said. "We are looking, expecting a successful and historic visit by President Obama, a visit that underscores what we gain by working together and what must world has to gain through this partnership," he concluded.
