Maoists kill primary school teacher in West Bengal's Jhargram district | A group of Maoists has killed a primary school teacher after taking him away from his home on the pretext of
holding some talks. Gurucharan Mahato's body was found five kilometers from his residence on Thursday. On Wednesday Maoists had met Mahato, who was
employed as
a teacher at the Bandhgora Primary School, and took him away. Mahato's relative
said he was dragged out of the house and killed later. "Last night, some Maoists
had called him for a meeting. They took him away and had people ready to kill
him. He was hiding in the corner of a house, when these people came with shovels
and dragged him out of the house. They put the shovel inside his stomach. They
set him on fire and finished him," said Sarama Mahato, victim's relative. A Maoist
poster, recovered from the site where the body was found, described Mahato as
a police informer and a leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). It said
that this was the reason why Mahato was killed. The Maoists regularly attack railway
tracks, and factories, aiming to cripple economic activity in the country, infrastructure
projects in particular. On Oct.1, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, while
condemning
the kangaroo courts and brutal executions being carried out by the Communist Party
of India-Maoist (CPI- Maoist), said around 21 people have been killed in the first
eight months of the year. Home Minister P. Chidambaram said on October 1, that
the CPI-Maoists hold courts called 'Jan Adalats', try the 'accused', sentence
them to death, and executes them in full public view in order to strike terror
in the hearts of the villagers. The number of 'Jan Adalats' has risen to 48 in
the current year up to August 31, 2010 from 38 in the corresponding period last
year.
