ICC awards: Tendulkar named 'Player of the Year', Sehwag 'Test Player of the Year' | Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was declared the 'ICC Player of the Year' while Virender Sehwag adjudged 'Test Player of the Year' at the seventh ICC awards function organized here on Wednesday evening. Tendulkar was also named
as the first recipient of the inaugural People's choice award and was named in
both the Test and one-day teams of the year at a glittering ceremony in Bengalaru,
India. Simon Katich and Doug Bollinger were the only Australians named in the
ICC's world Test cricket team of the year. India batsman Virender Sehwag won the
Test player of the year, beating off short-list competition from teammate Tendulkar
and the South African duo of Dale Steyn and Hashim Amla to claim the first ICC
award of his career. Sehwag was chosen, as part of the Test Team of the Year,
which includes Mahendra Singh Dhoni Kumar Sangakkara, Graeme Swann, Sachin Tendulkar,
Hashim Amla, Simon Katich, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis and Doug Bollinger. The
Test Team of the Year will be led by MS Dhoni. Meanwhile, Australian skipper Ricky
Ponting has been named captain of the ODI Team of the Year and the he'll be leading
the team comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Watson, Michael Hussey, AB de Villiers,
Paul Collingwood, MS Dhoni, Daniel Vettori, Stuart Broad, Doug Bollinger and Ryan
Harris. The Australian all rounder Shelley was the Woman Cricketer of the Year
South African batsman AB de Villiers was awarded the ODI Player of the Year. The
Pakistani Umpire, Aleem Dar, has won the David Shepherd Trophy for the second
time after being named ICC Umpire of the Year. The New Zealand batsman Brendon
McCullum won the award for the best Twenty20 performance of the year for his 116
not out against Australia in Christchurch in February. McCullum's was the first
winner announced during the 2010 ICC awards in Bangalore. The New Zealand won
the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award. Netherlands all-rounder Ryan ten Doeschate was
named the Associate Player of the Year award. England's Steven Finn won the award
for Emerging Player of the Year.
