Karnataka crisis: Governor asks Yeddyurappa to prove majority by Oct. 12 | Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj on Wednesday asked Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to prove his majority by 5 p.m. on October 12 after 21 MLAs withdrew support to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State. The Governor's
decision came after Yeddyurappa dropped four dissident ministers from his Cabinet.
The dropped ministers are (Textiles Minister)Venkataramanappa, (Minister for Agricultural
Marketing) Shivaraj Thangadagi, (Youth Services and Sports Minister) D Sudhakar
and (Animal Husbandry Minister) P M Narendraswamy. The provocation was the recent
Cabinet reshuffle in which six new ministers were inducted, leaving several senior
BJP leaders unhappy. BJP state unit president K S Eshwarappa, however, said there
was no cause for concern. "Crisis is part of politics. What is happening in Karnataka
now - among the BJP MLAs - it is all rumours and nobody should believe it. The
BJP is united. We are working under Yeddyurappa," he added. He admitted that some
legislators, who had not got ministerial berths, were dissatisfied and discussions
would be held with them. Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (Secular) met here today to
consider the impact of the BJP dissident activity.
