'We are not a puppet government': Omar Abdullah | Commenting on allegations that the Central Government
was running the affairs of the State, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said neither he nor his council of ministers were acting as puppets
of the Centre. "We are not puppets. We take decisions for our people and for their
benefit," said Omar Abdullah asserting that he was not running a puppet Government
in Jammu and Kashmir . Omar Abdullah also criticised Union Home Secretary G K
Pillai saying his statement on curfew was unwarranted. Pillai had in an interview
to State-run Doordarshan on the eve of 'Shab-e-Mehraj' announced the lifting of
curfew. "I have a grievance. There have been some instances where people have
talked more than needed. Union Home Secretary G K Pillai should not have spoken
about curfew on July 9," he added, while winding up the debate in the State Assembly
on the prevailing law and order situation in Kashmir . Omar Abdullah further said
he has received full support from the Central Government over the past four months
and expressed hope that it will continue in the future also. "But more than anything
else, we need people's cooperation the most in improving the situation as without
it, support from other quarters will be useless," he added. Omar Abdullah met
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh yesterday and reiterated the need for sustained
efforts to enter into dialogue with all shades of opinion in the State for addressing
and settling the issues confronting peace in the State. Omar Abdullah also discussed
various matters pertaining to the development and law and order scenario in Jammu
and Kashmir during his meeting with Dr Manmohan Singh.
