Leaders participating in the two-day 8th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit discussed issues of security, terrorism, piracy and disaster management, on the second and final day of the summit here on Tuesday. Talking to reporters after the conclusion of ASEM summit, Ministry of External Affairs' Secretary (East) Vijay Latha Reddy, informed that today the world leaders talked about security, terrorism, piracy and disaster management. Reddy said that "the leaders from Asia and Europe turned their attention from economic issues to security on Tuesday", as they opened the second and final day of a summit in Brussels. She, however, also mentioned about a participant country (without naming it) which described " poverty" as "a worst case of violence" while quoting Mahatma Gandhi. ASEM summit was participated by 48 nations this time. On Monday, during his address at the summit, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari told the participating nations that the global economic recovery and growth of developing nations would not be possible if non-traditional methods of protection remain a part of stimulus packages and emergency support measures initiated by the developed world. ASEM states account for more than half the world's population and wealth and include powerful nations such as China, India, France and Germany.
