Bangladesh HC rules 'no one can be forced to wear burka'

A Bangladesh High Court has ruled that the country is secular and that no one should be forced to wear the 'burka', or a full Islamic headdress. According to the BBC, this judgement follows a similar ruling in August, which said that women could not be forced to wear the 'burka' at work places, in schools or colleges. The four state principles, including secularism of the original Constitution of 1972, have been automatically restored following the judgment given on Fifth Amendment, the Court said. "Secularism is one of the four principles of the constitution... and no-one can be forced to wear religious attire in the secular state," the court ruled. A bench of the High Court (HC) comprising Justices AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Sheikh Mohammed Zakir Hossain ruled this while delivering a judgment.
