Maoist commanders, five arms suppliers surrender in Ranchi | Three Maoist commanders along with five suppliers of arms surrendered before the Ranchi district police on Monday. Senior Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said the three Maoists are -- Etwa Munda, Bholla Pal and Sita Ram Munda. He further stated that the three surrendered Maosit
'commanders' were actively engaged in the programmes of the ultras for nearly
five years. "These people got first involved in Kundan Pahari Group during 2006;
after that they were active like a squad," he stated. The Maoists would be given
an amount of rupees 50,000 as compensation to rehabilitate themselves in the
mainstream
of civil society, he informed. "Earlier also one Maoist named Deenbandhu Munda
was arrested. These surrendered Maoists have been given rupees 50,000 as
compensation
amount and like the previous surrendered Maoists, these people would be provided
rehabilitation after my approval and Deputy Commissioner's approval," Praveen
Kumar stated. Besides arms and ammunitions, the police also recovered mobile
phones
from the arms suppliers. Around 15 to 20 rebels have laid down their weapons in
last two months since the State government has started the 'Surrender Policy for
the Maoists'. Maoists have spread into rural pockets of 20 out of India's 28 states.
Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, has also termed these rebels as the
country's biggest internal security threat.
