Cash rewards announced for Indian medal winners in Commonwealth Games | Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora and Minister for Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma
have separately announced cash rewards for Indian medal winners in the XIXth Commonwealth Games. Deora announced 10 lakh rupees for winners of gold medals, seven lakh fifty
thousand rupees for silver medalists and five lakh rupees for bronze medal winners.
The decision to this effect was taken at the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board
(PSPB) meeting held on Sunday morning. "This will go a long way in promoting
sports
in the country. The lead provided by the oil Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)
and Petroleum Sports Promotion Board will encourage youngsters to take sports
as a career," said Deora describing the significance of the decision. Nearly 50
sports persons affiliated to Petroleum Sports Promotion Board are representing
India in the 2010 Games. Meanwhile, Anand Sharma announced seven lakh fifty
thousand
rupees for a gold medalist, five lakh rupees for a silver medalist and three lakh
fifty thousand rupees for a bronze medal winner.
