Pak blocks NATO supply trucks at Af-Pak border in retaliation against air strikes? | Pakistan has reportedly blocked oil tankers and trucks
carrying NATO supplies at a checkpoint bordering Afghanistan. Pakistani government
officials disclosed that senior authorities had ordered them to block the NATO
supply trucks at the Torkham border post, without telling them the reason behind
the move, The Nation reported. It is noteworthy that the order has come after
threats by Pakistani officials to stop providing protection to the NATO convoys
if the military alliance's choppers hit Pakistani targets again. But today again,
Pakistani officials alleged that three Pakistani troops were killed in a NATO
air strike at a border post. Earlier this week, following aerial engagement in
Pakistani territory by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), Pakistan
Interior Minister Rehman Malik had called it a violation of Pakistan ’s sovereignty,
and assured the Senate that the Afghan ambassador would be summoned to explain
his position over the cross-border air raids by the ISAF. According to military
sources, ISAF, which had earlier defended their air raids as an action ‘under
the right of self-defence’, later informed the Pakistani commanders that they
were trying to establish whether their helicopters during the operation had entered
Pakistani territory.
