Curfew continues for 13th day in Srinagar | Curfew continues for 13th day in Srinagar on Friday even after the decision of the separatist Hurriyat (Freedom) Conference to suspend the ongoing agitation. The Hurriyat
Conference
decided to suspend the ongoing agitation on Thursday. The authorities felt that
restriction across the Kashmir Valley should continue for some more time, based
on intelligence inputs. Vehicles of the police and the paramilitary Central Reserve
Police Force (CRPF) went around making announcements on Thursday night as well
as on Friday morning, asking people to stay indoors. Past experiences has been
that disturbances break out on Fridays. Security forces have also sealed all the
roads in the Valley to restrict public movement. Markets are shut and barbed wire
fencing and barricades erected as precautionary measures. Army vehicles were also
deployed at key points. This is the third time since Sunday that strict curfew
has been imposed in Kashmir. Curfew was re-imposed a day after an all-party
delegation,
led by Home Minister P Chidambaram, visited the region to assess the situation
in the state. |
