Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday interacted with students in the national capital to generate public awareness about upcoming Commonwealth Games here. Facilitated by a local NGO, Dikshit's visit aimed at familiarizing citizens and students with the 'green drive' launched by the Delhi government for the mega event. Dikshit, on the occasion, also unveiled a specially-designed giant statue of Shera, the Games mascot, prepared of waste material by a group of students. Addressing students, the chief minister asserted that the Games would be successful if the event was fully supported by the people of the city. "Yes, we may have to discipline ourselves. We may have to change our timings a little bit, follow the lanes that have been demarcated by the police authorities to see that the players receive no kind of problems from moving from one stadium to another. Apart from that, everything is going to be as usual. In fact, all of you will have much more fun than you are imagining today," said Dikshit. Dikshit also inaugurated a power plant facility, established for the purpose of giving uninterrupted power supply during the Games. Highlighting the rapid strides witnessed by the city in the realms of technology and infrastructure development, Dikshit opined that it was the Commonwealth Games that had opened a window to faster progress in Delhi . "We have to look at least 10 years in advance, to see the projections for the next 10 years so that we can meet them in the coming 10 years," said Dikshit. India is expecting about two million tourists in New Delhi for the Games, as well as about 7,000 athletes from 71 teams representing 54 Commonwealth member states which will be held between October 3 to 14 in New Delhi . The 12-day extravaganza will be India 's biggest sporting event since the 1982 Asian Games.
