BJP stages demonstration demanding ban on cow slaughter in Karnataka | Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs and a large number of party
supporters in Karnataka staged a demonstration here on Saturday to demand the Governor's endorsement to Cow slaughter ban Bill passed by them for their State.
Intensifying the political deadlock over the Bill to enact ban on cow slaughter,
the protesting legislators appealed to the Governor of Karnataka, H R Bharadwaj
to endorse the Bill and allow for its smooth passage. The demonstrators raised
slogans and paraded across the city to evoke religious sentiments and garner support
over the issue from the State's majority Hindu community. "This is not correct.
If the Governor and other Congress leaders want to stay here, they must pass the
Bill. If they do not approve the Bill, they are not welcome here and can pack
their bags and return to Delhi to play their political game. Cow is sacred to
the Hindu tradition and it must not be slaughtered. The Bill should be passed,"
said Shiv Kumar, a BJP leader. Governor Bharadwaj did not approve the Bill and
instead forwarded it to the President Pratibha Patil for her consideration without
his endorsement. BJP will also stage protests on Sunday to urge President Pratibha
Patil to give her assent to the Bill.
