GJM leader Nicole Tamang flees from CID custody | Nicole Tamang, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM)leader and the prime accused in killing of Madan Tamang, president of All India Gorkha League (AIGL), escaped from CID custody in Darjeeling's Pintail Village on Sunday. Nicole Tamang was being held at a CID camp near Siliguri after being
remanded to two week police custody by the Darjeeling court. Nicole has been booked
in three cases, the prime being the Madan Tamang murder case with non-bailable
sections including 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy.) The other two
other cases include one of vandalizing and destruction of property (bailable sections)
under the Darjeeling police station and the other of theft (bailable section)
under the Jorebungalow Police Station. Madan Tamang was killed on May 21 after
being attacked by unknown miscreants during a rally in Darjeeling city. The Gorkha
Janamukti Morcha (GJM) is the other forum spearheading the crusade for a separate
state of Gorkhaland in West Bengal. Madan Tamang also had demanded a separate
state, but was opposed to the GJM''s stand on setting up an interim council for
Darjeeling hills. He was a vocal opponent of Bimal Gurung, chief of GJM, and had
levelled certain corruption charges against him. |
