Woman set to become senior Muslim cop in Gujarat | Yasmin Sajid Sheikh, is all set to become the first senior policewoman from her community in Hindu dominant Gujarat. The 32-year-old schoolteacher cleared the Gujarat State
Public Commission Services exam recently, and will now join the State police force as a Deputy Superintendent of Police. Yasmin said her husband backed her decision
to join the forces. "I was really happy and I do not have words to explain that.
I immediately called my father, my mother, and my husband and gave them the good
news. I was really anxious about the result and I called my father and said that
I am really tense. I told him to go to the mosque and pray for me. After praying,
he called me and I then gave him the good news that I have been selected. Even
my husband prayed for me and is really happy," she said. The daughter of a retired
government primary schoolteacher, Yasmin is a post-graduate in Hindi and Gujarati,
and has two gold medals to her credit. Yasmin's father said his daughter has become
a role model for other girls in the Muslim community. "We are really happy that
our daughter has done it. I wish she would help the country, our community. We
want her to give an idea to our Muslim community that girls can also study. Today,
it's all about education," said Riyaz Mohammad Sheikh, Father of Yasmin Sajid
Sheikh. Sheikh wanted to become a doctor. But, the poor economic condition of
her parents did not permit her to study medicine. |
