A rendering of Seven Blessings at Clinton wedding | Chelsea Clinton, daughter of ex-US President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, tied the knot with her long-term beau Marc Mezvinsky at a grand ceremony. The couple exchanged vows at the elite Astor Courts estate in New York state which had been declared a ''no-fly'' zone with hundreds of security personnel blocking all roads leading to the venue. The 30-year-old bride wore a gown designed by Vera Wang whereas mother of the bride wore Oscar de la Renta. Rabbi James Ponet and the Reverend William Shillady conducted the interfaith ceremony. Clinton is Methodist, and Mezvinsky is Jewish. Their wedding, therefore, included elements from both
traditions: friends and family reading the Seven Blessings, which are typically
recited at traditional Jewish weddings following the vows and exchange of rings.
"Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc
wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close
friends," the New York Times quoted the Clintons as saying in a statement. "We
could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their
life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family." The couple
also thanked Rhinebeck for its welcome and good wishes. A couple's friend read
the poem "The Life That I Have" by Leo Marks. Many of the guests were friends
of the bride and groom from college and work. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey,
film director Steven Spielberg, Hollywood actor Tom Hanks and singer Barbara Streisand
were reportedly among the 500 guests. |
