Imran Khan to deliver MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s | Pakistan’s World Cup winning captain Imran Khan will be delivering the tenth annual MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture at Lord’s on July 19 (Monday). Imran
said he agreed to participate in the reputed event only after being persuaded
by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) president John Barclay. “I was approached by
Johnny Barclay. I happened to be here at this time. Johnny is my old Sussex colleague.
I think lecture will be about way the game’s changed – the positives and the negatives,”
The Dawn quoted Imran, as saying. Commenting on Pakistan ’s current squad, Imran
said it lacks exposure to high quality cricket. “ Pakistan have always had talented,
gifted players. Twenty20 is all about talent – hitting, natural ball-playing.
You don’t need that much of a temperament, you need to respond to pressure but
you don’t need same temperament you just need to hit ball well,” the 1992 World
Cup winning captain said. “But when it comes to Test cricket, you need technique,
temperament with talent and that’s what we lack because we don’t have quality
domestic cricket to polish that. So you find us having disastrous winter in Test
cricket but brilliant winter in Twenty20,” Imran said. |
