UK hospital delivers first baby in 157 years! | A beaming little boy has become the first baby
to be born at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital in its 157-year history. Pregnant
Nicola Tyler, from Canvey Island, Essex, was staying with her six-year-old daughter
Kelly at the hospital where the youngster, a cancer patient, was being treated
for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in her neck. The 32-year-old mother gave birth to
baby Zac who arrived four days early at the world-famous hospital that treats
sick babies and kids and does not have a maternity unit, reports the Daily Express.
When Nicola went into labour, nurses at the hospital called the maternity team
at nearby University College London Hospital but Zac came out quicker than expected.
The history making delivery was made with the help of intensive care senior staff
nurse Caroline Kanyanga, clinical site practitioner Mike Wise and clinical nurse
specialist Ailish Barry. Nicola said: "It is incredible such a broad team of
specialists helped me give birth to my beautiful baby and I can't thank them
enough, not just for the care they gave to Zac and me, but for what they have
done for Kelly too." |
