Queen's Baton for Commonwealth Games to enter India via Wagah border

The Chairman of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (CGOC), Suresh Kalmadi has said the Queen's Baton will enter India from Pakistan via the Wagah border on June 25. Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Kalmadi said: "It has been going around the world and it is coming to Wagah border. And in its last 100 days, it will be in India. It's been meticulously planned...the entire visit to all the Commonwealth countries." He assured that everything related to the Games is running smoothly. "I want to tell only one thing that every thing as far as the Commonwealth Games goes, is on track," said Kalmadi. Kalmadi also promised foolproof security arrangements for the relay. The President of Pakistan Olympics Association, Syed Arif Hassan would hand over the baton to Kalmadi at the Attari-Wagah border. After crossing the border, the baton will criss-cross 28 states and seven Union Territories, travelling a distance of over 20,000 km, before finally reaching New Delhi on September 30. The Queen's Baton relay is a torch race symbolising the unity and shared ideals of the Commonwealth of nations. It carries a message from the head of the Commonwealth of Nations, currently Queen Elizabeth II of the UK.
